It's SNOWING!!!

We woke up this a.m. to a soft coat of white dust - It's 11am now, and still coming down strong! This makes me VERY happy!
From the window - Dozer prefers to watch the snow this way... he's not interested in going out to play in it. :)
From outside (notice the new door?!) :-)
Bootprints.
Time for some coffee and snugglin'!

Weekend Recap!

We had a hugely productive weekend! We started out with the setting of the pillars and hoisting of the support beam - this was done Friday night... (we both got off work around 3pm that day)
Then Saturday morning after our plumbing catastrophe, Peter fixed it up quite nice. :) No more leaks! (for tonight anyway!)
Saturday morning I FINALLY started staining our front door.
Prepping the non-stainable parts:
Trim first, brick molding next, then panels, then the flat areas. It's very scientific. :)
Meanwhile, Peter worked on the porch, hanging the stringers.
Beautiful, chilly 55* weather! PERFECT for working on the house!
Frame done, on to the door. :)
1/2 the stringers are up!
ALL the stringers up! :)
Didn't he do a great job?
One side is done! :) Now, I wait for it to dry... I'll put the glaze on tomorrow and stain the other side on Tuesday.
By the end of Saturday evening Peter had most of the sheathing up on the roof.
Usn's after a hard days work. Ken & Liesl came up and helped on Saturday then we went out for a delicious Indian food supper! Thanks K&L!
Lizzy came up too! She and Dozer had a staring match through the window. :) Lizzy won.
Finally, as if he hadn't done enough that day, Peter installed our low-profile entryway light! A beautiful improvement from the ugly brass monstrocity that was there previously. :)
Today (Sunday) after a.m. meeting we finished putting the rest of the sheathing up, installed the ice and water shield on the roof & laid the tar paper. It's ready for shingles!
On the roof. :)
I'm so pleased! It doesn't look much like a colonial house any longer!!! It's looking more and more craftsman-ish all the time!
Another angle. :)
Porch from underneath. It's 30" long by 7" wide. Perfect. :)
Now it's 10pm and time to wind down! I just re-read the post and there are a LOT of smiley faces, but I think they are well warranted! Hope you had a lovely weekend too!

Thanksgiving happiness

Look ma, an apple pie! I made it. :) For Thanksgiving. It was good!
And pretty. :) That's important too! (right?!)
Pour homemade caramel sauce on top, pop it in the oven for 60 minutes and...
Viola!
We spent the day at Ken and Liesl's, gobbling up all kinds of yummy food - Their house looked great! They had decorated it quite festive!
Kristi's beautiful brownies!
I love this wall!
The table...
Us'ns :)
K&L
Jay & Kristi (from Richmond)
My sweet hubby!
The crew. We had a great time!! Thanks K&L!!!!!!!!!

Saturday Morning Surprise!

Because, WHO doesn't like to wake up to a burst hot water pipe?
The water flooded out from here when Peter started slowly pulling the sheet-rock down. It had been pooling there for awhile.
The culprit... Peter's on his way to Lowe's as I write this to get a replacement.
Poybutylene plumbing is the PITS. Remember this post? I'll copy & paste what I wrote before: Eventually Peter plans on replacing all of the plumbing in the house. Back in the 80's they used a material called PB (Polybutylene) piping (the grey stuff below), which these days isn't used or produced because it's SO horrible! They say there are two types of PB piping - the kind that leaks, and the kind that will leak.
A bit of cleanup to do...
HAPPY Saturday y'all.

New furniture!

New wall art!
Story time: :-) When we left Oregon in June 2008 we sold just about all the furniture we owned... Knowing we'd be living in a much smaller space we kept the futon as our "couch" so we could use it as a bed when needed. It came in quite handy a number of times however now that we're in our own place a year and 1/2 later, we finally purchased some furniture!
It's a little bit funky/modern, but we love it! And oh my, it's SO nice to sit on comfy chairs again!
Couch~
This one was a transplant from Oregon - still comfy & it fits right in!
We're looking forward to this Thanksgiving with Ken & Liesl and some friends from Richmond! Hope you have a lovely Turkey Day and have lots to be thankful for! We do!

Sunday's progress

After meeting this morning we got back to work!!
Today's starting point - we were a little over 1/2 way done with the decking.
Now we're finished! (almost) We need one more 14' board for the last run & three 12' boards for the fascia. We'll pick them up tomorrow!
Then we put the ledger board up for the porch roof line...
Starting to put the pillars in place ~
All four pillars up! We'll secure them tomorrow... the fascia piece has to be bolted on to the stringers before we can put the pillars up permanently.
That wrapped up our afternoon/evening! This weekend was a productive one!!

Look what we did!!!

Today we purchased the Ipe for the front porch!
This wood is SOOO pretty!
My plan today was to stain our new front door... which was foiled when I realized they had sent us the wrong color stain. Quite honestly getting this door, all in one unbroken piece, as we ordered it, when we ordered it has been SUCH a pain. I will be glad when this project is behind me! Maybe next weekend?
So I helped my hubby instead!
First two boards down... we're still getting our process figured out here. :)
... but when we get on a roll, you can't stop us! :) It's over half done and we'll finish the rest after meeting tomorrow!
Us'ns in our workin' grubs. Hanging our coats up for the night.
Progress, I love progress!

Picture pefect!

...and delicious to top it off! This cheesecake turned out SO creamy - it was PERFECT!
We had a fondue party on Saturday night... and I didn't take even ONE photo! :( Then Sunday we had a local family over for lunch with the workers too. The photo above was our dessert. Liesl made it on Saturday when they were here for fondue. Thanks friend!

Stuffs

The porch is coming right along...
8 footings poured
Concrete setting up in the sonotubes
Peter's working on the main support beam that runs parallel to the house. He has one length left and then he will mount the stringers... then... the deck!
Another shot so you can see the full length.
The vows go unbroken - and you still know 'I do'. Love keep and honor - always true to you.

Long overdue pictures!

Four weeks ago, Peter started working on getting the front of the house ready for our new porch. This included tearing out the first entry step so he could put up the ledger board. Watch your feet when you come visit now! :)
Ledger board up...
Blog intermission to show off our Mr. Princess. :)
Also four weeks ago, Peter installed two more can lights in the kitchen - having only two in there was a little dim. :) It's MUCH brighter now!
Three weeks ago... dun, dun dun... our windows arrived! We installed them all in one day! Don't they look AH-MAZING?! The door however, is another story that I'd rather not talk about right now...The evening that we finished installing the windows, some friends from San Diego, R&K Gibson & kiddos were to be with us for the night. I didn't get any photos of them while they were here, but did get some of our clean house! :)
Dining room... I don't think I've ever posted a finished photo of this room. I'm quite pleased with the way it turned out. There are still some walls to be removed, new flooring, etc, etc, to be done, but for now it's quite nice. The windows on the South side (ie: this room) and West side of the house will be replaced next year. Winter is FAST approaching on us & we've run out of time this year!I think I'm all caught up on photos for tonight! Peter dug eight holes for the footings for the porch & I caulked nail holes and trim pieces today. Another successful Saturday! Hope yours was grrrreat too!
