This was one of those you-had-to-be-there events & pictures really don't do it justice, but I thought my pops and bros might like to see the photos so I'm uploading them just in case. :)
The stars of the show... the Blue Angels! We waited and waited and waited for these guys to fly, and they don't disappoint!
A number of acrobatic planes did their thing for a few hours. They make me sick to my stomach watching them! When P. and I were taking flying lessons a few years ago, our last lesson was learning the mid-air stalls... cutting the engine mid-flight and dropping from the sky. SCARY. I have a lot more respect for these acrobatic pilots now!
This is a Lockheed-Martin C-130T Hercules, affectionately known as "Fat Albert Airlines". He flew just before the Blue Angels. He transports the crew and maintenance personnel that support them. More info here. (click on Fat Albert Airlines on the right after you go to the link)
And, finally! The Blue Angels Pilots!
K&L were a little bit wiped out from the sun! We had been waiting for the Blue Angels for over an hour. :)
Finally in the air!
Amazing!
Click this photo to enlarge... crazy!
We had taken the metro to the airshow & after the Blue Angels flew we decided to head back to DC for some supper. However, apparently the other 100,000 people that were there which ALSO rode the metro decided to leave then too. Instead of standing in line (click on the photo to check out the lines in the background) in the blistering sun (we were already totally FRIED), we laid in the shade of the wing of the large fueling tanker planes. For an hour and 1/2. Exhausted, thirsty & hungry!
Finally downtown DC again (with very pink faces!) we found a Thai place in China Town for dinner.
Now, in a few hours we'll pack our things up and head WEST! We're flying to San Diego for the week, so don't expect a post until next weekend! :) Adios amigos!
