New house n' other stuff!

This was how Dozer helped us pack... we're sure glad we have him around!
We finally have PROJECTS!!! (please remind me of my excitement when we get tired of all our projects, and I start complaining) :-)
Can-lights for the family room, kitchen, living room & master bedroom...
Who'da ever thunk you could spend $100 on just LIGHTBULBS?! Motion sensor lights for the garage, front door and back deck... Oh, and a new garage door and opener!!
The garage door will look like this, except a double door instead of two separate. Can't wait!!!!... and this was our first project! Ripped out all the nasty carpet. The new carpet will be installed this weekend - YAY! Right now all our boxes/furniture/beds/everything we own is in the living room dining room and family room until the carpet comes... then we can spread out!!!
I love our house! Also, finally a picture of Peter's new toy. :)
The grass had it's first haircut tonight... I just LOVE the smell of fresh cut lawn!! Peter's poor legs got bit up tho... we're going to have to figure out how to deal with the mosquitos here!
Here's Peter's pride and joy! He finally is able to have all his tools out and organized after having them packed in boxes for the past year!!
More organization... :) The garage looks better than the kitchen right now!
Dozer LOVES the looong windows. They come down to about 8 inches from the floor - just his height!
Ok, I best get some shut eye... Hopefully now that we're in the house I'll be better at updating!! Happy days to everybody!

Finally!

We are officially the owners of our new house!!!

Anyone want to come tear out carpet tomorrow? Paint? Pack? Clean? Move?

:-)

...Can't...Hold...Back...!

I just can't stand to wait anymore... Technically we won't OWN the place until next Friday, but I couldn't wait any longer to tell everyone we BOUGHT A HOUSE!!
More pictures are here.
There's a lot of work to be done, but we're quite excited to finally have a place of our own out here & settle in. It's a 2 story house with a full, unfinished basement on 1/2 acre. There are 4 bedrooms, so now we'll have lots of room for y'all if you come visit! Please do!

New Wheels!

Bought this yesterday... It's FUN! Perfect for summer, and also Peter's new commuter car!
(actually this is a photo I stole from the internet... haven't had a minute to take a photo of ours)
And, NO, this is not the news that was mentioned in the previous posts...

Can't tell you quite yet what we're celebrating, but here's what we celebrated with!
Blue Cheese hamburgers... SO good!
Maybe I'll be able to share our news with y'all in a few weeks... :-)

Our week in pictures...

This is how it started out for DZ:
This is how it started out for me... ACK! Inside my cupboard?!?!?
Dozer got some fan/sympathy mail this week... so sweet!
Isn't this adorable?!
... the cookie was good too... :) Thanks Dash & Mischief!
Here's how he spent most of this afternoon...
We went on a walk! The tree & flower blossoms are still beautiful! Spring in DC is amazing!
Tonight I made these: Samoas Bars
Bake the crust...
Toast some coconut...
Melt some caramel...
Mix caramel & coconut...
Drizzle with chocolate &... Wah-lah! Samoas Bars! I hope they're tasty... we'll see tomorrow!
Dozer's getting along quite well... he had his "post-op" appointment on Monday and the Vet was pleased with how well he's doing. He was especially happy with how much weight he's putting on his hip already. We were glad to hear the good news as he hasn't taken so well to the 3 weeks of resting he was supposed to have. :) We still don't understand just how are you supposed to explain to a cat that they need to rest?
Anyhow, Saturday was an AMAZINGLY beautiful day for us! Sunny, clear & 75*! Hope you all had a lovely Saturday too...!

Stolen fotos!

This weekend the Cherry Blossoms were at their peak down in DC, however we didn't make it over to see them... so I stole some friends photos!
WA Monument in the background
Jefferson Memorial... isn't this beautiful?!
WA Monument again
Aaaand, the Jefferson Memorial again
Pretty, pretty, pretty! Come see for yourself, and we'll lend ya a bed & put some some baked beans on the table!

Spring in DC

What better way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon than enjoying the sunshine & bar-b-queing?! It was BEAUTIFUL this weekend in DC & we made the most of it!
Ready for some serious BBQ'n...On the menu: Steak, compliments of my dear hubby!
Simple, but tasty!!!! Enough for lunch tomorrow too!
After supper we went for a walk down to the pond to see if the turtles would come up to feed.
On our way over...
Daffodils lining the sidewalk
All the trees are in blossom... it's beautiful!
Us, at the pond. Sadly, no turtles yet. :(
I think this is a magnolia tree bloom?
More blossoms!!
This is the best time of year to visit... come on over!

Something I miss...

One of the things I miss most now that I'm working is spending time with this little girl and her mama.

Kitty pics...

Here's the poor, sore, pathetic kitty. He still yowls every time he tries to stand... I really hope the pain subsides in the next few days. I feel so bad for him. Right now he seems worse than before the surgery. :(
Close up of the incision :-(
Today he's in our downstairs bathroom b/c I had to get some laundry done... He's already trying to stand and walk - which he's not supposed to do for 3 weeks! He paws at the door when we shut it... so I'm not sure how long this confinement will last. We weren't expecting him to want to be mobile so quickly. He sure appreciates all the pets and treats he gets tho!

Ken's Birthday

Last weekend Mr. Ken decided to had a birthday on us, so we celebrated! Spinach linguine alfredo, Salad and Olive ciabatta bread. I love an occasion to eat lots of food & spend time with friends!
Peter and I... see, we ARE still alive!
The DELISH carrot cake that Liesl made... So moist!
Happy Birthday Ken... the number doesn't matter anymore! :)

Ken & Liesl's transformation!

Our friends Ken and Liesl have been remodeling their new house... the kitchen is newly finished & here's a before and after shot! It's beautiful!
BEFORE... 70's green tile on the walls, the kitchen is completely closed in.
AFTER: Terracotta orange on the left wall, soft yellow on the other. Cherry cabinets & granite counters. They opened the wall up too... it looks GREAT!
Close-up of the cabinets and granite. Why is it that nice kitchens make me want to cook? :)

Whoops, forgot I had this...

This is what we woke up to on my first day of work... March 2, 2009.
It was beautiful, but made for an interesting drive in!
About 8 inches... :)

Update...

Dozer is home. The surgery was a success... according to the doctor. He looks SO pitiful. He has to be confined to the laundry room/closet for the next 3 weeks. He is to have very limited movement and absolutely no running or jumping. He's on morphine (morning and night), anti-inflammatory (morning only) and antibiotic (morning and night). Oh, and he HATES taking the medicine.

He's always so glad when we open the laundry room door and give him some pets and treats. I feel so bad for him!! 1/2 of his body is shaved as well as a ring around his front paw where they had to put the IV in.

Lots of people have asked what happened to him. We really don't know. A few weeks ago he started limping... We weren't about to overreact, and after a few days the limp seemed to be better. However, last weekend Dozer tried to stand up from laying down & yowled in pain. The rest of that day, every time he tried to stand, it hurt. After x-rays, the vet confirmed he had a broken hip. She said it looked like it had fractured first, and broken later. The place where it broke is a weak spot for young cats... and it wasn't an uncommon break, but an expensive one!

I'll post a picture of him tomorrow... I know you all want to see. :)

Bad news

Dozer broke his hip... he's at the kitty surgeon right now being operated on. Yes, now we are the crazy pet owners who spend their life savings on their animals.

Oh, and we haven't heard back from the vet... I am worried. :(

Bad Blogger...

That's what I am. A bad blogger. Period.

Our weather is starting to shape up around here, and I'm hoping with the promise of blissfully sunny spring days that our evenings will be filled with many a bike ride or stroll over to the turtle pond. Hmmm, I wonder if the turtles have come out of hibernation yet? Did you know they hibernate?

And you, my dear reader, just might be hoping for the promise of some updated pictures?

Someday, someday soon...

Signed,
Yours truly... the now eighty-thirty to fiver.

Still alive!

Nothing much has happened in our corner, but thought I'd write a boring, picture-less update at least!

After 5 interviews (yes, 5!!) with a community bank in McLean Virginia I landed a job! Monday March 2nd will be my first day, and I am sure looking forward to it. The bank is a small community bank with only one branch and I'll be doing Loan Portfolio Management and Credit Analyst work. Basically number crunching and risk management for the lending department. I have been really impressed with everyone I've met thus far and & I'm looking forward to working with them! I know I will miss my lazy days at home, but for my own sanity I'm sure it will be better to work again. Plus, now I can justify my sporadic shopping trips! :-)

I'm missing my family today... somehow they all planned to be together and didn't invite me! :-) (joking Mom!) Dellas brought Jill, his fiancee, down to San Diego to "meet the parents" and Wes flew down there also. Lucky ducks!

One of my roommates from Vancouver, WA has been living out here in Richmond, VA with her hubby and they stayed the night with us last evening... we had a great time together!

I'm excited for our friends Ken and Liesl... maybe you remember them (and their house!) from previous posts? It's coming along quite nicely! We enjoy being excited for them since we don't have a house of our own to remodel yet. :)

Enough rambling... this should serve as proof that we're still alive and kicking... maybe something exciting will happen that I can take some photos of soon? :)

P.S.: We still have an extra bedroom if anyone feels the urge to come visit!
